On September 21, Scott Apling was named the Buckeye Rooftop Giveaway Winner! Scott’s military journey began 28 years ago in the U.S. Air Force as a C-130 mechanic, where he honed his skills and supported global missions. After four years, he transitioned to the Army, where he spent the next 24 years leading logistics operations, earning prestigious honors including two Bronze Stars, two Defense Meritorious Service Medals, and a Combat Action Badge. Scott’s retirement as a Lieutenant Colonel marks the culmination of nearly three decades of dedicated service, embodying honor, courage, and commitment to his country.
And then few days later on September 23, we were able to recognize Skye Stringer as the Bengal's Military Rooftop Giveaway winner. Stringer is a Navy veteran who began her service in 2008 as an Aviation Machinist Mate, specializing in helicopter engine and rotor system mechanics. She broke barriers as the first woman in her squadron’s engine maintenance shop, earning two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medals, and developed training programs for over 250 sailors. After transitioning to civilian life, she pursued a degree in history and continued to support the military community, serving as a Navy Family OMBUDSMAN and now as a Regional Military Outreach Manager. Her journey reflects resilience, leadership, and a steadfast commitment to serving others.
